The Oscar nominees are in, and even though I aint seen half of them I'm gonna put my penny's worth in and pick who I think will win.... :)

Best picture
Babel
The Departed
Letters From Iwo Jima
Little Miss Sunshine
The Queen

I haven't seen any of these yet, but Babel's storyline (and structure) is right up the Academy's street. Although, my second guess would be Little Miss Sunshine, which has come from no where really.

Best director
Clint Eastwood, Letters From Iwo Jima
Stephen Frears, The Queen
Paul Greengrass, United 93
Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu, Babel
Martin Scorsese, The Departed

My heart wants Scorsese, but if the guy isnt gonna get one for Raging Bull or Goodfellas, what should he get it for? United 93 was a critical hit, but maybe it's too political. I reckon Eastwood.

Best actor
Leonardo DiCaprio, Blood Diamond
Ryan Gosling, Half Nelson
Peter O'Toole, Venus
Will Smith, The Pursuit of Happyness
Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland

This should be Whitaker's year, but I think the Academy will go all goey and go for Smith.

Best actress
Penelope Cruz, Volver
Judi Dench, Notes on a Scandal
Helen Mirren, The Queen
Meryl Streep, The Devil Wears Prada
Kate Winslet, Little Children

Mirren, hand's down. She's won most of the other major awards. Of course, the Academy could vote for homegrown and let Streep sneak in.

Best supporting actress
Adriana Barraza, Babel
Cate Blanchett, Notes on a Scandal
Abigail Breslin, Little Miss Sunshine
Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls
Rinko Kikucki, Babel

Christ, I havent seen a single film that has been nominated so far lol, I'll go with Hudson. Dreamgirls was getting a lot of buzz but this is the first major nom it's been in.

Best supporting actor
Alan Arkin, Little Miss Sunshine
Jackie Earle Haley, Little Children
Djimon Hounsou, Blood Diamond
Eddie Murphy, Dreamgirls
Mark Wahlberg, The Departed

Murphy, which will then allow him to do Beverley Hills Cop 4 - even though no one's arsed.

Best foreign language film
Efter Brylluppet (aka After the Wedding), Denmark
Indigenes (aka Days of Glory), Algeria
El Laberinto del Fauno (aka Pan's Labyrinth), Mexico
Das Leben der Anderen (aka The Lives of Others), Germany
Water, Canada

Pan's as it's the only one I've heard of. I thought Apocoplyto (misspelt I know) would have got a nom, esp as it's the Foreign Language award, not Foreign Film award now.

Best animated feature film
Cars
Happy Feet
Monster House

This is probably the toughest of all categories - Cars was poor by Pixar's standings, Happy Feet had that bizarre ending, and Monster House had the rave reviews...

Best adapted screenplay
Borat
Children of Men
The Departed
Little Children
Notes on a Scandal

They always give Scorsese film's the lesser Oscars, so he can sit there slowly dying....

Best original screenplay
Babel
Letters from Iwo Jima
Little Miss Sunshine
The Queen
Pan's Labyrinth

I think it's number two for Pan's

Anyone agree or disagree?

Haha

My predicition:

Best picture
Babel.
Simply because its better than the rest.

Best Director
Martin Scorsese.
My heart doesn't want him. My heart wants Clint. Or just anyone thats not him. Because The Departed is not THAT good. But i think he will get it.

Best Actor
Forest Whitaker.
No reason, he just deserves it.

Best Actress
... i simply has no idea as i haven't seen ANY. I hope Kate Winslet got it anyway. Personal reason. I like her.

Other than these, no comment haha. I just dont want The Departed to get ANY :P Simply because ppl praise it when neither of them have seen Infernal Affairs which is MUCH better.

x day
