Oscars Update

Well I stayed up and watched it, evenhad a bottle of wine to keep me going. Sadly, that ran out around 3am and I still had two hours to. The ceremony was a little flat this year, Ellen Degeneres was ok, but not great, not memorable. The biggest problem was the lack of emotional investment (on my part anyways) on any of the films, normally I have one or two nominees that I want to win. This year, there was only really Peter o'Toole, and that was because, well, he's Peter O'Toole...

So, here are my predictions and eventual winners -

Jan 27th

  • Best Picture - Babel
  • Best Director - Clint Eastwood
  • Best Actor - Will Smith
  • Best Actress - Helen Mirren
  • Best Supporting Actress - Jennifer Hudson
  • Best Supporting Actor - Eddie Murphy
  • Best Foriegn Film - Pan's Labyrinth
  • Best Animated - Happy feet
  • Best Adapted Screenplay - The Departed
  • Best Original Screenplay - Pan's Labyrinth
And the winners were -
  • Best Picture - The Departed
  • Best Director - Martin Scorcese
  • Best Actor - Forrest Whittaker
  • Best Actress - Helen Mirren
  • Best Supporting Actress - Jennifer Hudson
  • Best Supporting Actor - Alan Arkin
  • Best Foreign Film - The Lives of Others
  • Best Animated - Happy feet
  • Best Adapted Screenplay - The Departed
  • Best Original Screenplay - Little Miss Sunshine
Wow, my predictions were crap lol. Only four right!
I was a fool to think Will Smith, I guess Whittaker was always going to take it.
The Departed was a shock, it is a good film, but I'm not sure if it's as good as his other classics. When Coppola, Lucas and Speilberg came out I thought well it's gonna be Scorcese or DePalma, and seeing as DePalma was not nominated...

Oh well, here's to next years Oscars....

Misadventures in the Cyberzone

I still cannot "google my ass" :(

try as I might, I am just not significant enough to warrant a place on Google. But what of the other search engines?

Well, the keywords "neil dempsey" on Yahoo bring up a story of mine that another website published. It's number 23, which is three pages in lol

Yahoo does have my website on there, but I'm on page 10 and still no sign... yikes!

Page 19 - I need to do something, ok I've added "kirkby" to the keywords...

and number 1 is me!

except, its not my website. It's an old guestbook from an old job. Hmm... on with the search.

not much else :(

ok, MSN (my old employers)

"neil dempsey kirkby" brings up the guestbook again (number 1 too) - and er, that's it.

ok, try something different, pull out the big guns...

"neil dempsey writing photograpghy kirkby liverpool"

Damn! nothing on MSN.
Yahoo = zilch!

Sod it, I'm off to watch 24....
